Spring is coming!
Can you believe it is already February and we are into our 3rd quarter of school? I have noticed so much growth over the course of the year mentally, physically, and socially. I hope you are as proud of your kiddos as I am. With the warmer temperatures and more distractions that spring brings, it is easy for all of us at any age to get a little "spring fever". In the classroom, I have noticed that the symptoms of this can include: lack of interest in schoolwork, fewer homework assignments being done, and lower test scores than normal. One way to remedy this is to encourage your students to continue to read and practice skills at home every night! Continue to check backpacks regularly for notes, homework assignments, or tests that have been graded. This will help remind your child that you have school expectations for them. Glacier Field Trip On February 25th, our class will be heading to Glacier for a snowshoeing field trip. We will be taking a bus with Mrs. Grave's class and we will be leaving right at 8:25. If your kiddo isn't on the bus at that time, we will unfortunately have to leave without them. This will be an amazing opportunity for our kids, so please take a moment to read carefully so you can make sure they are prepared! 1. Students MUST be on the bus by 8:25. We will return at 3:10 that afternoon. 2. Lunches will be provided for each student by the school. 3. The chaperone list filled up so quickly, that unfortunately there is no more room for adult chaperone volunteers. :( sorry. 4. Please make sure your child has the following: mittens, coat, hat, snowpants, and snowboots. 5. Permission slips MUST be turned in by Wednesday, February 24th. If I do not have a permission slip, they will have to stay behind. Please contact me if you need another permission slip. I hope you are all enjoying the snow! It seems that the the temperature dropped rather quickly, and it is here to stay with us through the holidays. Please don't hesitate to let me know if your kiddos don't have appropriate winter clothing. I will do everything I can to make sure they are staying warm outside. If your children DO have adequate snowgear, please encourage them to bring their hats and gloves with them to school each day.
We will be having a very long Christmas Break this year! Our last day of school before the Holiday is December 18th, and class with begin again on Monday, January 4th. Today we were fortunate enough to have an assembly with MT Wild Wings. The students met Homer, Igor, Frank, and Tika. Frank was a Pygmy Owl Igor was a Barn Owl Tika was a Snowy Owl Homer was a Grey Owl
Today was filled with a variety of Salish and Kootenai educational opportunities and the kids LOVED it! We started out the morning making mini tepees, beaded chokers, and dream catchers. Then we warmed up our chilly hands while we learned about the process of smoking deer meat. After getting a little sample of the meat,we pigged out on fry bread! After lunch, we played running and screaming (this was hysterical to watch),a round of double ball, followed by stick ball. They were amazing, and I was exhausted just watching them! We finished off our day with a wonderful drum ceremony and a handshake circle. I couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable field trip, and seeing all those smiling faces is a memory I will keep forever. After School Club will begin September 27th. Because of such a high enrollment, not all students were able to be fit into the program. If your child was selected, you should have received a letter in the mail. Please fill out that form and return it to me. The child will not be able to attend the program until the form has been turned in. If you did not receive a letter but signed up, your child has been put on a waiting list. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!
Thanks! Ciara Everett Grandparent's day will be this Friday from 7:45-8:20. Breakfast will be provided in the gym, and the kids are welcome to give them a tour of the classroom before our school day begins!
